Well, don’t be.

This is exactly how our mind wanders around into our own dreamland.

But in the real world?

you know, the world where we live in? Here we are not perfect. Here We all have our fair share of failures.

So, why we daydream?

Because, fantasizing, about our desires are highly satisfying and addictive.             

But it certainly isn’t a bad thing. Daydreaming is a great tool to unleash your creative power and explore new Ideas. Some of the brilliant ideas in the world emerged from delving into the ocean of mind-wandering.

Also fantasizing about the ideal, unrealistic scenarios often help up to uplift our mood, de-stress and relax. Daydreaming about upcoming events also prepares us for the future and determines our reaction to it.

Then, why does daydreaming has such a bad reputation?

Well, daydreaming is effective only when, we understand the sweet spot between the present and the fantasies of the wandering mind.  Excessive Daydreaming can cause stagnancy and immobility.

For some people daydreaming is very much controlled and doesn’t affect their productivity, for others, daydreaming leads to many problems like missing deadlines, un-productivity and a lot of time waste.

But for most of us, we fall in between. We occasionally get lost in our thoughts and find ourselves wasting time, but still manages to do the work in time.

If your habit of daydreaming is taking most of your time and messing with your focus, it’s a sign that you need to learn to control your daydreaming to use your time productively. 

1. Keep your mind busy

Our mind doesn’t like to get bored. That is why we get trapped in the cloud of mind wandering when there is no work, around. So, keeping yourself busy with productive tasks can be a good way to tackle daydreaming. And if you don't find any, go for a walk or run, exercise, work on your hobby. Just keep your mind occupied with productive tasks.

2. Meditate

Meditation is the ultimate weapon to keep your mind in check. It has numerous benefits on your mind. Meditation is hard, but being mindful about your actions and thoughts can give you control over your mind, and dramatically decreases your chance of daydreaming. At first, it will be hard, but practice makes perfect.
3. Give direction to your daydreaming.

Controlling your mind is hard, especially if you are trying to suppress your thoughts. It takes a lot of mental energy. Instead, give direction to your thoughts on the topics you want to learn. This way you mind still gets the pleasure of daydreaming, but it also helps you to learn the topic you want to learn.

4. Engage with people

Humans are social animals. We get bored when we are alone. And there’s an old saying
                                              
                          “Empty mind is the devil’s workshop”

So make sure to meet with people, spend quality time with friends and family, Join a course, learn new skills and network . This will distract your mind from wandering cluelessly and help you control daydreaming.

5. Build self-control

Self-control is one skill everyone should master. It's the ability to be mindful of your thoughts. 

When the mind starts to wander around, simply force your attention to the task in hand. It will be hard at first. But the more you'll do it, the easier it'll get. 

Don't get frustrated. Be understanding and patient with the process. And you will find yourself daydreaming less and less.
